GOVT GRANTS LICENCES TO 3 COMPANIES FOR OIL, GAS EXPLORATION

April 18, 2017 ISLAMABAD, April 18 (APP): Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Tuesday informed the Senate that the government had granted licences to three companies for oil and gas exploration in Kotal, Karak Shuamli and Paharpur. Responding to a question in the House, he said M/s OMV, Tallahasee and Kirthar Pakistan BV were given licenses under the Petroleum Exploration and Production Policy, 2012. To another question, the minister said the Sanghar district was ranked fifth in terms of production of natural gas in the country. The government, he said, had not imposed any ban on the provision of new gas connection in Sanghar. The federal cabinet on April 12 had lifted moratorium on extension of gas to new towns and villages across the country, he added. He said the companies provided gas connections subject to availability of network and required funds to undertake network expansion. The lead time for new domestic gas connection was 45 days on the network of Sui Southern Gas Company. To another query, Khaqan Abbasi said the government and gas utility companies were taking several steps to control Unaccounted for Gas (UFG), including promulgation of The Gas (theft Control & Recovery) Act, 2016, segmentation of distribution network, installation of meters, EVC and modems on all town border stations on distribution network, leak survey and rectification etc.

HYDEL, GAS, COAL PROJECTS LAUNCHED TO MEET ENERGY SHORTAGE: ABID

ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Tuesday said Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government had launched hydel, gas and coal projects to meet energy shortage in the country. Talking to PTV, he said huge investment was being made in various projects due to peaceful environment in the country. He said coal reservoirs were available in the country specially in Thar region. He said power plants would be installed in these areas to meet energy demand. To a question, he said previous governments did not pay attention towards electricity due to which people were facing the problem. The State Minister said the present government had taken initiatives and launched several power projects to add electricity into national grid system. He said 525 mega watt electricity would be added in the system by 2018. To another question, he said zero loadshedding would be observed during 'Sehar' and 'Iftar' timings of Ramazan ul Mubarak. Abid Sher Ali said electricity was being supplied to industrial sector without any interruption.

TAPI Project To Assist In Overcoming Power Crisis

APR 20TH, 2017 18:37 ISLAMABAD: Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India Gas Pipeline Project will support power generation capacity and overcome the crippling power shortage crisis. Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in a written reply to a question during 7th sitting of 41st session Thursday said. He said construction of pipeline will also create job opportunities in backward areas along with the pipeline route. He said the project will be completed by December 2020 which will help in meeting the energy requirements of the country. The minister said the project upon completion would help achieve high GDP growth in the country. He said imported natural gas remains the economical and most suitable fuel for power generation and it will help to overcome power crisis.

RUSSIA, PAKISTAN FOR FURTHER COOPERATION IN OIL AND GAS SECTOR

APR 6TH, 2017 00:54 ISLAMABAD: A high level delegation from Russian Federation led by State Secretary and Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Yuri P Sentyurin and Deputy Chairman of Gazprom A Vtaly Markelov, called on Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Wednesday. During the meeting mutually beneficial matters of bilateral interest were discussed aiming to further deepen the cooperation in different fields of oil and gas sector, a press release said. The delegation evinced keen interest in laying transnational gas pipelines, mutual cooperation between Gazprom International and Pakistani state owned exploration and production company, Oil and Gas Developemnt Company Limited, for jointly exploring vistas of opportunities both within and outside Pakistan. An update from the Pakistan side on North-South Gas Pipeline Project (NSGPP) was also shared with the Russian delegation. Shahid Khaqan appreciated the keen interest of the Russian Federation to promote cooperation in different fields of oil and gas sector and hoped that Pakistan-Russian relations would grow further with successful implementation of different projects between the two countries. The Deputy Chairman Gazprom added that the proposed projects in petroleum sector would be beneficial for the economic well-being of Pakistan and would provide growth opportunities for both the nations in years the future.
